Supporting Ovingham Middle School in building restoration

Cheviot Learning Trust has been working with D3 Associates over the past few years to improve and renovate the school building at Ovingham Middle School, in order to transform the impression of the overall school. We worked with them to replace all the windows, curtain walling and external doors.

Our investment in Ovingham Middle School has made an immediate difference to the learning environment, allowing for a full transformation both in the external building and the feel of the school as a whole. 

As a Trust, our core purpose is to advance the education provided to students. Our work towards the development of OMS has created a better environment for the staff and students, resulting in a space that feels brighter, more welcoming and more conducive to learning. 

The school reported more stable classroom temperatures, improved control over thermal comfort, and significantly better natural ventilation. It is also clear that the new system also provides enhanced durability, reduced maintenance demands and increased safety. Overall, the project has delivered a safer, more energy-efficient and comfortable school building, supporting both staff and student wellbeing year-round. 

We understand that when students and staff are more comfortable in their school, learning can excel further, which is why we are proud of this transformation and of supporting the work being completed. 

The Trust began working with D3 Associates on a multi-tiered approach in 2024. In order to minimise disruption to learning, the phases worked around school holidays as much as possible.

The first phase of this project focused on the main entrance, some classrooms, and a refurbishment of the entrance and reception areas. This phase also involved the installation of new aluminium windows and doors. Phase Two included replacing the gym window, and the following phase took place in summer 2025, focusing on the south-west facing sides of the building.

2026 will see more phases to continue developing the school to a high standard.
