Newminster Middle School Celebrates Ofsted Outcome under the new inspection framework

Newminster Middle School is celebrating following a recent Ofsted inspection from January 2026, which recognised the school’s strengths under the new inspection framework.

The report highlights several areas that contribute to a positive and inclusive experience for pupils. Inspectors have recognised the categories of Inclusion and Personal Development as a strong standard, which is central to Newminster Middle School, as it is part of their ethos and the wider vision of Cheviot Learning Trust.

Achieving mission and values

The Ofsted inspection identified inclusion as a significant strength. The report noted:
“Leaders ensure that all pupils can succeed by adapting their support to meet the needs of individual learners. Staff are well trained to support pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, and teaching is carefully adapted so that all learners can access the curriculum.”

The report also notes how leaders work closely with families and external agencies, providing bespoke support and reducing barriers to learning and wellbeing.

Personal development is also recognised as a key strength. Inspectors noted that this is at the heart of the school, with a wide range of opportunities that help pupils develop confidence, resilience and a strong sense of identity.

The report states: “Pupils benefit from a broad enrichment offer including clubs, school productions and residential visits, alongside opportunities to take on leadership roles such as playground pals and reading ambassadors. These experiences support pupils in becoming active, respectful members of their community.”

The report also highlights the calm and positive environment across the school, noting that pupils feel safe, behave well and show kindness and respect towards one another. Strong relationships between staff and pupils ensure that children feel supported and valued.

Headteacher Elizabeth Kinninment said:

“We are incredibly proud of the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection. We want every child to have access to a wide range of experiences and opportunities, and it is fantastic that our inspection team recognised this. The parting words of our lead inspector were that ‘This is a school to be celebrated and be proud of’, and we absolutely are. I am incredibly proud of our students and staff who work so hard to ensure that there are so many fantastic opportunities available to all. We are also hugely grateful for the amazing support that our parents and wider school community continue to provide.”

All other rated areas of Achievement, Attendance and behaviour, Curriculum and teaching, and Leadership and governance were given the expected standard with many positives highlighted here as well.

Overall, Newminster Middle School continues to provide a caring and inclusive environment where pupils can thrive and achieve their potential. Great job to all staff and students for showcasing the many strengths of the school.
