Morpeth School’s rock stars for Comic Relief
This month, pupils and staff from ten Morpeth schools came together for Morpeth Schools Rock Stars for Comic Relief, a lively and inspiring fundraiser held to celebrate creativity, teamwork and community spirit.
Organised by the Morpeth Partnership and led by Charlotte Jones, Curriculum Leader of Creative Arts at Newminster Middle School, the event built on months of planning. Bronze Arts Award pupils at Newminster worked with choreographer Miss Kelly to create a fun, child-friendly dance routine almost a year before the performance.
The event included 10 schools from the Morpeth area: Stobhillgate First School, St Robert’s First School, Abbeyfields First School, Stannington First School, Cambo First School, Tritlington C of E First School, Morpeth All Saints, Newminster Middle School, Chantry Middle School, and Collingwood School.
The tuition video was then shared with all participating schools to help pupils learn the steps ahead of the event.
To prepare pupils for the big day, Miss Kelly also delivered dance workshops at each school, giving everyone a chance to practise and gain confidence before performing.
Originally planned as an outdoor event, the performances moved indoors due to windy and rainy weather. Schools took part in scheduled sessions throughout the day, with performances captured on film by Objective Pictures. Some schools were also able to join via a live weblink, allowing even more young people in the community to take part.
The event was a great success. Charlotte Jones said:
“This event has been about bringing our community together through creativity. Seeing pupils from different schools performing and having fun for such an important cause has been wonderful.”
Pupils were equally enthusiastic. A Year 6 pupil from Newminster Middle School said:
“Everyone danced and looked like rock stars! We had lots of fun and raised money for Comic Relief at the same time.”
Ella, Year 4 from Morpeth All Saints, added:
“I really liked the dance that was created by the choreographers. It was so good to go with the other schools and see everyone having fun.”
The event highlighted the positive impact schools can achieve when they work together, using creativity and collaboration to support a great cause. We would like to thank all participating schools, pupils, staff, families and volunteers who helped make the event such a memorable success.
Pupils raised funds through sponsorship, showing how the arts can bring the community together for a good cause. Donations to Comic Relief are still welcome via the JustGiving page:
