KEVI unveils new sports hall
As part of Cheviot Learning Trust’s investment in school buildings, The King Edward VI School has now proudly unveiled its newly completed sports facilities, marking a major milestone for the school and wider community.
Following planning approval from Northumberland County Council last year, the much-anticipated sports hall is now finished and ready for use.
The facility gives the school a dedicated space for its PE curriculum throughout the winter months and provides improved opportunities for local community sport. It supports a range of activities, including football, netball, basketball, badminton, trampolining, cricket, and even pickleball.
The development was made possible with support from Northumberland County Council, with the school and Trust working closely with council officers over several years to develop the plans and gain approval.
The Sports Hall complements the school’s existing high-quality athletics track and grass pitches and forms part of a wider commitment to outstanding sporting provision. The facility will shortly
be further enhanced by the addition of a 3G pitch, in partnership with the Football Foundation, adding further opportunities for students and community groups.
Headteacher Clare Savage noted: “This is a hugely exciting moment for our school. Sport has always been a strength of King Edward VI School, and the opening of our first ever Sports Hall provides the facilities our students deserve. We are incredibly proud to see this vision become a reality after many years of ambition and 18 months of hard work, and we thank Northumberland County Council and our Foundation Governors for their continued support.”
The opening of the Sports Hall is expected to make a positive difference for students and staff at the school, supporting physical education, sport, and wellbeing for years to come.
